Senior Process Engineer – Gold-Stamp™ 2D Materials
$135k–$175k
New York, NY (on-site / hybrid)

We are seeking an experienced Senior Process Engineer to lead the development, optimization, and scaling of Tessellate 2D’s Gold-Stamp™ fabrication process. You will translate breakthrough research into robust, repeatable process flows that deliver atomically precise monolayers at scale. This is a hands-on role working closely with our founders, materials scientists, and external partners to push the boundaries of post-silicon semiconductor manufacturing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own and optimize the end-to-end Gold-Stamp™ process for yield, throughput, and repeatability.
  • Design, document, and refine process flows for exfoliation, transfer, etching, cleaning, and packaging of 2D monolayers.
  • Develop and maintain in-line metrology, SPC, and process control methods for critical parameters (defectivity, mobility, uniformity, adhesion).
  • Collaborate with materials and device teams to establish process–structure–property relationships and close the loop between device performance and process tuning.
  • Evaluate new equipment, chemistries, and tooling to improve scalability and compatibility with 50–300 mm platforms.
  • Implement rigorous safety and cleanroom best practices for handling chemicals, thin films, and nanomaterials.
  • Prepare documentation, SOPs, and training materials to enable future team members and external partners.

Skills & Experience

  • BS/MS/PhD in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in semiconductor process development, thin-film processing, or advanced packaging (startup or R&D fab experience a plus).
  • Strong background in at least two of: wet etch / clean chemistries, thin-film deposition, wafer bonding, transfer processes, or lithography.
  • Familiarity with 2D materials, advanced nodes, or BEOL integration is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated ability to take processes from lab proof-of-concept to stable, documented, production-ready flows.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, experimental environment with evolving requirements.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate across disciplines.

What We Offer
Competitive salary: $135,000–$175,000 depending on experience.
Meaningful equity in a high-growth deep-tech startup shaping the future beyond silicon.
Access to cutting-edge research facilities and collaboration with world-class scientists and engineers.
A culture that values curiosity, experimentation, and rapid learning.
Opportunities to own core technology that will define the next generation of semiconductor materials

Crystal Growth Scientist – 2D TMD Semiconductors
$120k–$160k
New York, NY (on-site)

Tessellate 2D’s Gold-Stamp™ technology is only as good as the crystals it starts from. We are seeking a Crystal Growth Scientist to design, grow, and characterize the next generation of ultra-high-purity transition metal dichalcogenide (TMD) crystals. You will be responsible for pushing material quality toward intrinsic limits, enabling monolayers with exceptional mobility and minimal defect densities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and execute crystal growth experiments for TMD materials (e.g., MoS₂, WSe₂) using flux, chemical vapor transport, or related techniques.
  • Optimize growth conditions for purity, defect density, crystal size, and reproducibility.
  • Characterize crystals using XRD, Raman, PL, SEM/TEM, AFM, and electrical measurements in collaboration with the broader team.
  • Work closely with the Gold-Stamp™ process team to align crystal properties with exfoliation and device requirements.
  • Develop models and empirical understanding of how growth parameters influence electronic and structural properties.
  • Maintain detailed experimental records, growth recipes, and quality control metrics.
  • Interface with external suppliers and academic partners for crystal sourcing, benchmarking, and collaborative projects.

Skills & Experience

  • PhD (or MS with strong experience) in Materials Science, Solid-State Physics, Chemistry, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated expertise in single-crystal growth of semiconductors, oxides, or layered materials.
  • Hands-on experience with flux growth, CVT, Bridgman, or similar crystal growth methods.
  • Familiarity with 2D materials and van der Waals crystals is a strong plus.
  • Proficiency with structural and optical characterization techniques (XRD, Raman, PL, microscopy).
  • Strong data analysis skills; experience with Python/Matlab for experiment planning and analysis is beneficial.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating closely with process and device engineers.

What We Offer
Competitive salary: $120,000–$160,000 depending on experience.
Equity in a venture-backed startup at the forefront of 2D semiconductor materials.
The opportunity to define the state of the art in TMD crystal quality and impact future logic nodes.
Supportive, intellectually intense environment with close ties to leading academic groups.
Resources and autonomy to design ambitious experiments and see them through to real devices
